Maniac on the Floor

For the rest of us, it's Loving Rene: Finally, someone wrote about our ever-so-popular underground dancer ("Lord of the Dance," Jonathan Zwickel, September 22).

I've known Rene for a few years now, from Crobar on South Beach to Gumwrappers in Fort Lauderdale. He loves to dance without a care or reason.

A true free spirit -- he's one of the very few, and I'm glad that the world will be able to read this and see it clearly through your words. Jipsy C, Miami Beach, FL

One Good Egg

Blanco keeps the motors revving: I just wanted to say how cool it was that you did a story on Rene Blanco ("Lord of the Dance," Jonathan Zwickel, September 22). I first met him when he came to see my shows when I played with Secret P.E. Club. What a sweet guy with such great energy. We should all have fans who care as much as he does about local music. Thanks for taking the time to write about one of the good eggs. Mindy, Fort Lauderdale, FL

Dear Jonathan Zwickel
: Thanks for writing such a terrific article about Rene Blanco. When he dances at our shows, which is often, we always get people asking "What's up with that guy?" or complaining about how he's blocking their views. I've even heard other bands bitch about how he was stealing their show or distracting them from performing well. I've even heard some performers mock him from the mic and ask "What's that guy on?" Our answer: He's high on life, and you'd be blessed if everyone was as stoked about your music. The scene would be a lot stronger and a lot more fun if everyone was as enthusiastic about local music as Rene is!  Many have talked trash about him, and few have taken the time to find out his story, so thanks for telling it. It's about time someone recognized him "officially" for his contribution to the music scene. I can't help but remember the uninhibited glee I had when I was a kid when I see him dance, and I thank you for honoring his spirit! Marya, Lake Worth, FL

He's not stuck in the underground anymore: I enjoyed this article a lot. Rene is a great cat and one of the hidden treasures of the local scene. Thanks for making him a little less hidden. Casey, Pompano Beach, FL

We knew him when: I really loved your article about Rene. It is really so nice to have someone finally put down on paper what all the friends of Rene have been thinking.

Thanks for putting a spotlight on something other than all the negativity that has been going on all around us. We need more journalists like you to remind us of the little things that make life better. Karen, N. Miami Beach, FL

Rene is the way! Keep on keepin' on! Mr. Entertainment, Hollywood, FL

Rene can dance to what other people can’t figure out how to dance to. Jason, Ft Laud, FL

FOR YOUR COLUMN!!! GREAT! HUGS! Jipsy

Hey Rene! Very cool article! Sure sounds like it's going great! You deserve it! Your old pal! Christine, Boca Raton, FL

It’s rare to see a straight white guy dance well, especially for hours on end, night after night, to rock, punk, reggae, spoken word, but this guy does it all. He even gets better as the night goes on. That huge array of dance moves combined with effortless and spontaneous creativity is not only amazing, it's almost hypnotic! P. Kruger, Ft Laud, FL
